David Snyder

Bio

David Snyder (b. 1979 Rochester, New York) began making videos as a way to work out his ideas, akin to the practice of sketching. In several videos he faces the camera and talks in a stream-of-consciousness style, mimicking a self-help guru or infomercial host, appearing confident and authoritative yet making absolutely no sense. After a visit to the home of a childhood friend, Snyder began work on Me TV (2012), a house literally bursting at the seams from the noise and ferocity of the TV and radio programs blasting from within. All the media, including original music, is produced and performed by Snyder. Me TV offers a new way of understanding or thinking about TV, as Snyder, rather than being a passive viewer, becomes the TV itself and the sole creator of its content and structure. Here he interprets the social space of popular media while providing a model for its logic (or illogic) and imagining how it can be applied to a domestic space.
